Believe in Yourself
Belief doesn’t replace the work. It makes the work possible.
You Have to Believe in Yourself
I’ll keep saying it because it matters that much.
At the end of the day, it’s just you and the words. No crowd, no applause, no validation in that moment. Just you sat there, building something out of nothing. If you don’t believe you can do it, you won’t stick around long enough to prove yourself right.
Even if nobody else sees it yet, you have to. That belief is what gets you back in the chair the next day.
Golf, Practice, and Getting Better
I always come back to golf.
I love the game, and I’m decent at it. But I used to be better. Why? Because I practiced. Writing works the same way. Every word you write is practice. Every piece of feedback is practice. Every book is another round on the course.
You don’t magically improve. You put in reps. You show up, swing the club, and accept that some shots are ugly while others are pure.
Embrace the Joy of Creation
There’s something incredible about creating a story.
You’re taking something that exists only in your head and putting it on the page where someone else can experience it. That’s not normal. That’s not something everyone can do. And you get to do it.
If you lose sight of that, the whole thing starts to feel like a grind. Remember why you started. There’s joy in this, even when it’s hard.
Recognize Your Moments of Brilliance
Don’t just look for what’s wrong.
Yes, you’ll go back through your work and find things that make you cringe. That’s part of growth. But don’t ignore the parts where you nailed it. The lines that hit. The scenes that land. The moments where you think, yeah, that’s good.
Lean into those. That’s your voice showing up. That’s what you build on.
There’s Always Room to Improve
Nobody has this completely figured out.
It doesn’t matter how many books you’ve written or how successful you are. There’s always something to refine. Prose, pacing, character depth, engagement. Always another level.
That’s not a weakness. That’s the game. Everyone is moving forward, just at different speeds and from different starting points.
Confidence Drives Everything
Confidence isn’t arrogance. It’s fuel.
It’s the energy that keeps your business moving. It’s what lets you take risks, publish the book, try the next idea. Without it, you hesitate, second-guess, and stall out.
Build that confidence through action. Through writing, learning, and improving. Not by waiting for someone else to hand it to you.
Final Thought
Belief doesn’t replace the work. It makes the work possible.
You show up, you practice, you create, and you improve. That’s the path. Believe you belong on it and then prove it to yourself one page at a time.
